Lord of the fries

The moment we walked into this small takeaway shop, we were overwhelmed by the size of the crowd. Yes, this was "Lord of the fries"! They were fresh and not frozen, with less fat, skin on, and cooked in quality oil. Started as a food truck venture in Melbourne all the way back in 2004, they have then arrived at one of Sydney's busiest street, George Street, just a little while ago.

Before we even visited here, I had my eyes locked on the "French Canadian" deluxe sauce. The sound of shredded CHEESE and hot GRAVY was just too hard to resist, we could almost picture it with drools coming out of our mouth.

Large fries $6.95 + French Canadian sauce $2.50 (Shredded cheese + hot gravy) Total $9.45

When we finally got it...well...I don't know. Shall I say it was a little disappointing? The fries didn't taste that special to me, it was like something in between hot chips and hot wedges. Not too crunchy and yet not too soggy, and we didn't taste much of the skins. As much as we loved the magnificent sauce combination, this box with a price tag of $9.45 in total could still be quite overpriced in comparison.

Every time we walk pass by, there was still a line outside waiting for the freshly made fries. With people smiling and laughing everywhere, we still believe a lot of them indeed loved the fries. However, we just can't really see ourselves going there over and over again just for the fries. Perhaps we can try something else next time??

Eat Now (Thai Ranosaurus)

Thanks to Eat Now's invitation to trial their online takeaway order and food delivery system, we were able to try something new and exciting! We have hardly ever ordered meal online (except for pizzas), so we really looked forward to it!! To begin, all you need to do is search by your suburb or postcode and then find the restaurant that you'd like to order food from (You can also register an account for later use).

Once you've decided on a restaurant, you can then check out their menu and start adding the dishes to your order. (Something I can suggest here is...reading the reviews actually help out a lot if you are unsure about some of the places, also keep an eye on the minimum ordering amount for free delivery and their opening time)

Once you have ordered everything, you can choose whether you'd like to pick up or deliver to your home, and also the timeframe that you'd like to receive your order. Eat Now then allows you to pay by Credit card, Paypal or cash on delivery.

After the selection of payment method, you will get this web confirmation as above. We asked for delivery, and this was then confirmed by an SMS to the mobile with an approximate delivery time of 1 hour. Surprisingly, the delivery actually came after about 40 minutes and all dishes were packed in the usual clear takeaway boxes in a plastic bag.

So these are what we have ordered:

- 1 Thai coconut drink ($3.50)
- 1 Curry puff (4pcs) ($5.90)
- 1 Red duck curry ($14.90)
- 1 Coconut rice (small) ($3.00)
- 1 Pad Thai noodle (chicken) ($10.90)
- 2 Thai custards ($3.90each)

We found the portions were extremely generous, especially the Pad Thai noodles. The Coconut juice was very refreshing, the Curry puffs were HUGE! We loved the Red duck curry, it was quite spicy but we enjoyed the taste when we soak the coconut rice in it. We found the Pad Thai noodles were brilliant as well, although all the noodles were broken or stuck onto each other. The Thai custards certainly didn't look appetising at first, but the sticky rice actually turned out really nice and the custard wasn't too sweet.

Overall we were really happy with the service and we were so relieved on the day as we couldn't figure out what to eat. It was one of those weekends where you just feel so lazy and don't even want to move an inch, especially when the weather have been horrible for awhile! We would definitely recommend Eat Now for these types of occasions, it's really simple to use and you can just relax and wait for your meal to get ready!

Phamish

There we were, staring at a whole bunch of people eating at Phamish, so we thought this got to be good! Indeed it was an interesting location (like...in the middle of nowhere?) among some other restaurants, and its red colour stood out from the crowd.

They were more like Takeaway style, in which the menu was written up on the board near the counter.

We sat directly across the kitchen, and it looked pretty busy! While we were waiting, we went to get a random drink from the little fridge.

Duck and prawn pancakes, filled with roast duck, prawns and fresh Vietnamese herb (2pc $14.00, 3pc $21.00, 4pc $28.00, 5pc $35.00)

This dish was the reason we came here, so obviously we were so excited when it arrived our table! Yes, it was a lot bigger than what we imagined, and the filling felt like it was going to burst out. I thought the combination of duck and prawn was quite unique, so I tried a full bite for the ultimate satisfaction. I LOVED IT! Despite of how strong the herb tasted, it actually complimented the meat quite well. I loved how there were so much textures in there...you can taste the juicy duck, the fresh prawn, the bits of crunchy bean sprout, the sweet chilli dipping sauce, along with the carefully wrapped paper roll. We were actually already 3/4 full after we finished this, so we felt it certainly worth the price.

Bo Luc Lac Beef, Sauteed in Soy and Onion and served on a bed of mixed salad, lime or Cumquat, Salt and Pepper dipping sauce $20.50

Bun ordered this for our main dish, we thought it was quite ordinary at the start but the taste won our hearts in the end. We loved how well the beef was cooked, as they were tender and juicy. The green salad was a bonus, in which refreshed our mouths for more meats. We actually forgot to dip into Salt and Pepper, but I guess we didn't really need it as they had perfect amount of flavours already.

Rice $3.00

We also ordered rice to go with the beef, ahhhhh that was GOOOOOOD!

Overall we had a nice experience there, and the only thing I can probably point out was the heat inside the restaurant. If you come in winter, I'd highly recommend you sit exactly where we sat (with the heat waves from kitchen and burning sensation from the light bulbs). But please, go outside if it's summer, it will be 10 times better than indoor!!! (We sweat zillion times in there!) Oh, and did I also mention they had really funny chairs? :P
